Features for IT Staff
Physician Satisfaction
The primary "customers" for hospital IT department is the physician or nurse. Symantec Workspace provides them fast (3 seconds**) access with built in Healthcare Grade Single Sign-On. Workspace is the first access management solution to be designed to conform to real world hospital workflow. Clinicians require the technology to get them in and out and on to the next patient. Workspace gives them the solution with a flexible, tested and proven application.
Vendor Neutral Desktop Connection Broker
Our Desktop Connection Broker component gives on demand access to the most appropriate and cost-effective physical or virtual IT resource. This can be local resources, a PC Blade, a VDI session or a Terminal Server based solution. The key component is the single logon screen that is available on all your endpoints. When a nurse walks up, she gets a personalized Terminal Server desktop, but when the Chief of Radiology walks up 5 seconds later to the same workstation, he gets a PC Blade with rich graphics from the same terminal. The advantage is to be able to deliver the most cost effective solution depending on the specific use-case.
Reduced Endpoint Management
Since there is very little processing done on the endpoint, management of the thick clients, rich clients and tablets can be exponentially reduced. As time goes on you will have the option to refresh the endpoints with more cost-effective thin client devices for even easier management. Some facilities have been able to pay for a large portion of a Workspace implementation by extending an already planned desktop replacement project.
Consistent, personalized end-user experience
Follow me capabilities de-couple the user from the workstation, allowing a personalized desktop to follow the clinician throughout their shift. This enables IT to efficiently deliver tailored workspaces to all of its users. IT can also ensure consistent user experiences, regardless of what device is being used. The users' applications can be tied to the group they belong to in active directory, making application delivery role-based instead of pc-based.
Healthcare Focus
For nearly seven years, Symantec Workspace (formerly nSuite PrivacyShell) was designed for hospitals from the ground up, incorporating hundreds of IT and end-user suggestions into a product that improves both the patient workflow and has very fast implementation times. Our extensive hospital experience means that we have dozens of tools specifically designed to make healthcare implementations faster and in the end, they just work.
Enhanced Security
Single Sign-on and integrated authentication device support creates a more secure environment for the sensitive patient data you are tasked with delivering and keeping safe. A hospital tested Single Sign-On will single-handedly remove the majority of help desk calls, such as user requests for password resets. Workspace supports most commercially available authentication methods which allow the hospital to choose which one or combination of methods makes the most sense.
Remote Access
Administrators can provide the remote working capabilities that physicians demand while lessening the risks associated with remote access. Symantec Workspace permits secure, easy-to-administer remote access. Of equal importance, this approach, which requires only a single connection and efficiently utilizes server and connection resources - ensures that users obtain consistently reliable access to hospital applications and data.
Built-in messaging
Symantec Workspace incorporates the ability to deliver a banner message to the main screen of all logged off workstation instantly. Very simple and customizable to be of maximum use. Workspace all incorporates messaging for specific applications so that a message is delivered when a specific application is opened. And with our built in reporting feature, you will know who got the message and who didn't.
Reduce your server farms
Symantec Workspace was designed to be more efficient than other VDI solutions and competitive Terminal Server based solutions. That efficiency allows us to get much higher user density per server than other Virtualization products from leading vendors, depending on server hardware and the applications being hosted. This reduces the TCO of Symantec Workspace compared to other solutions by as much as 70%, without sacrificing flexibility or end-user experience.
Application licensing metering
We find that most hospitals have no idea how many software licenses are actually being used for the sometimes hundreds of applications they have on hand. We've added a robust license metering functionality to track exactly how many distinct users are using X application.
Accurate, Instant Reporting
Extensive, on-demand auditing and reporting of workstations, users, and applications across the enterprise enable administrators to track who is working with what application in what location, at a moment's notice. Instant, detailed post-incident reporting improves forensics.
Reduce Help Desk Calls
With a reliable SSO, you will see password reset calls drop significantly compared to what you get today and with self service password management, you could reduce that even further. When a user that calls that doesn't have access to an application they need, they can be given access with a few clicks.
Application Compatibility
Symantec Workspace Corporate but can also integrate with other components of the Symantec Endpoint Virtualization Suite, including Symantec Workspace Virtualization and Symantec Workspace Streaming let you isolate problem applications in their own virtual bubble, allowing them to run with other applications on the same machine. Streaming allows even more opportunity for more efficient management of the applications to be delivered.
